Mastra is a TypeScript framework for production AI agents from builders with a long track record in JavaScript tooling (the Gatsby lineage). Instead of bolting chat-completion helpers onto Express, it gives you first-class agents, multi-step workflows, memory, evals and tracing — so you can ship something closer to an app than a weekend demo. You define behaviour in typed TypeScript, integrate with React, Next.js or Node, or deploy Mastra as its own server.
The open-source core is Apache-2.0 and covers the building blocks most teams need: agents that call tools, durable workflows, RAG-style memory and observability hooks. Optional Mastra Cloud adds managed deployment and higher observability quotas; a free Cloud Starter exists, with Teams around $250/month and Enterprise for SSO-grade needs. Code under ee/ directories is source-available under a separate enterprise licence for production auth/RBAC — worth reading before you depend on those features.
