In editorial fit assessments, Claude often suits longer, more natural prose with clearer structure. For blog posts, essays, and creative writing, many editors prefer Claude’s draft voice; ChatGPT is still a strong fit when you want a faster, more formulaic first pass.
ChatGPT’s code interpreter can run code live and iterate on errors when that feature is on your plan — a strong fit for debugging in one chat surface. Pure code-generation quality is close; pick Claude Code / an IDE agent when the job is multi-file outside chat.
Neither product should be marketed as “everyone gets 1M tokens.” ChatGPT chat context is plan-capped (OpenAI Instant figures ~27K Free / ~54K Go·Plus / ~128K Pro); Anthropic lists Claude’s Free/Pro/Max window as up to 1M tokens, varying by model. For long PDFs, Claude is usually the clearer pick; ChatGPT still works well when the doc fits your plan cap.
Both are excellent for research. ChatGPT's web browsing pulls live sources; Claude reasons more carefully through complex multi-step problems. For factual lookups, ChatGPT. For nuanced analysis of provided materials, Claude.
