We ran both through the same tasks. Here is what we found.
Claude produces longer, more natural prose with better structure and fewer clichés. For blog posts, essays, and creative writing, Claude's output consistently needed less editing. ChatGPT is still excellent but tends toward a more formulaic style.
ChatGPT's code interpreter runs code live and iterates based on errors — a huge advantage for debugging. For pure code generation quality the gap is small, but the ability to execute and test code in the same session gives ChatGPT the edge for developers.
Both now offer around a million tokens of context, so each handles large documents well. We fed a 150-page PDF into both — Claude referenced it accurately throughout, and ChatGPT (GPT-5.6) also held up well across the full document.
Both are excellent for research. ChatGPT's web browsing pulls live sources; Claude reasons more carefully through complex multi-step problems. For factual lookups, ChatGPT. For nuanced analysis of provided materials, Claude.
