We ran both through the same tasks. Here is what we found.
ChatGPT consistently produces tighter, more natural prose. Gemini tends to over-explain and uses more filler phrases. For blog posts, emails and creative writing, ChatGPT's output needed less editing in our tests.
Gemini's 2 million token context window is not a marketing gimmick — it genuinely handles full books, large codebases and lengthy research papers in one pass. ChatGPT (GPT-5.6) now offers around 1M tokens, still large but roughly half of Gemini's.
If your work lives in Google Docs, Gmail and Sheets, Gemini has no competition. It drafts emails directly in Gmail, summarises Docs and can query your Drive. ChatGPT has no native Google integration.
ChatGPT's live code interpreter runs, tests and debugs code in the same session. Gemini generates good code but can't execute it natively. For serious development work ChatGPT is still ahead on the day-to-day workflow.
